Contrary to popular opinion, the National Treatment Purchase Fund is actually damaging our health system

The National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) was established by the Minister for Health, Mary Harney, in order to reduce waiting lists and, perhaps, as away of reducing costs and improving efficiency.

The strategy has delivered on its ability to get large volumes of surgery done, and it is a significant source of funding for some private hospitals.

Indeed, it may be the only difference between survival and possible closure for some of those private hospitals.
