If you wonder about the state of Ireland’s political classes, just have a look at the behaviour of the Labour Party since the European elections.

For a start they were comprehensively rejected by the electorate, winning fewer votes in the European elections than several of the independents alone. Labour representation was wiped out in the European Parliament, and across the country the party’s local representation was also devastated.
