Former Aer Arann owner Tim Kilroe, the owner of the hotel that hosted Bertie Ahern’s stg£8,000 personal appearance, was a wealthy businessman and racehorse-owner who made his fortune in Manchester.

Kilroe is believed to have organised the event at which Ahern appeared.

Kilroe, who died in 2004, was born in Castlecoote in Roscommon, in 1939. He moved to Manchester at the age of 15 and started work making Wellington boots in a Dunlop factory.
