There has been an enormous amount of attention paid to the poor performance of bank stocks this year.

Some stocks, however, have really bucked the trend and none more so than the oil sector. Burren Energy shares are up 33 per cent this year. Tullow Oil stock is up 57 per cent since January. Dragon Oil is up 69 per cent and Providence Resources is up 26.8 per cent.
