It has been a tough 12 months for stockbrokers. The significant fall in the volume and value of stocks traded in Ireland has hit revenues very hard according to sources in the industry.

We have already seen some of the fallout from the pain in the industry. Davy Stockbrokers announced last month that it was letting go 75 of its 500 staff and seeking pay cuts of 10 per cent from those earning over €50,000 per year.
