Listen to James Kilbane, co-founder and chairman of Irish recruitment firm Grafton Employment Solutions Provider (ESP), and you might well underestimate his company’s global clout.

He is fond of calling Grafton ‘‘a small Irish company doing strange things around the world’’. That is not quite the case. Grafton’s financial results, released last week, showed record trading, with gross profits up by 17.6 per cent to €54 million on turnover of more than €161 million.
