Healthy start-up activity in Ireland's medical devices sector is giving rise to a new breed of third-level spin-outs and collaborative enterprises with a keen commercial edge.
Of the 150 medtech companies based in Ireland, 100 are Irish-owned, according to Sharon Higgins, director of the Irish Medical Devices Association (IMDA). She sees the sector as a leading light in the indigenous economy and key to Ireland's export potential.
