It is hard to understand Niall Stanage’s article, ‘‘Teen sex needs new perspective’’ (SBP, 29/7/07) and his view that young people being actively discouraged from having sex is ‘‘a debatable proposition’’.

He claims that abstinence-only programmes do not work and there is no evidence that teaching about contraception leads to increased sexual activity.
