The data dilemma
We hand over sensitive data to financial institutions and service providers every day. But just how safe is it? Emma Kennedy reports.
Recent revelations about some credit unions using private investigators to obtain confidential details about their customers from the Department of Social Protection have put data protection under the spotlight.
The Commissioner for Data Protection is looking closely at the matter, while the Central Bank has said that it will assess the “need for correspondence with individual credit unions or the credit union sector in relation to specific issues arising from this matter”.
