Irish and British finance ministers are trying hard to water down forthcoming EU regulations on hedge funds, as over 80 per cent of these funds are managed by British or Irish-registered companies.

The vast majority of these have ultimate investors from areas of the world where no questions are asked. The liquidity of these funds throughout the worldwide financial depression must raise the question: what type of business produces so much cash, even in hard times?
