What do you buy the billionaire who has everything? In the case of Denis O'Brien, it seems, the answer is: a private hospital.

For the past four months, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre (UPMC), the US healthcare giant, has been locked in talks with its bankers to restructure company borrowings of more than €100 million relating to the Beacon Hospital in Sandyford, south Dublin.
