Tesco's waning market share raises concern ahead of sales report

Tesco’s sales and market share slumped in the past three months, according to research published today, increasing concern among investors ahead of tomorrow’s first-quarter report.

Tesco may tomorrow report its worst quarterly British sales performance in more than a decade.

Tesco’s sales and market share slumped in the past three months, according to research published today, increasing concern among investors ahead of tomorrow’s first-quarter report.

The supermarket company’s share of its domestic market fell 1.5 percentage points to 29 per cent in the 12 weeks ended May 25, Kantar Worldpanel said in a statement today. Its sales in that period dropped 3.1 per cent, the researcher said.
