Tesco sacks Silvercrest as burger supplier

UPDATE: Tesco has said that following its own investigation it has decided to drop Monaghan meat processor Silvercrest as a supplier.

"The breach of trust is simply too great,” said Tesco.

The Monaghan meat processor Silvercrest is coming under increasing pressure over the persistent horsemeat scandal.

Tesco decided to drop Silvercrest as a supplier of frozen burgers, representing business worth a reported €15 million, after tests showed one "beef" burger at Tesco had 29 per cent horsemeat.
