Supermarket chain Tesco has said first quarter like-for-like sales fell by 1.5 per cent.

Tesco upbeat despite dip in new sales

Supermarket chain Tesco has said first quarter like-for-like sales, excluding VAT and fuel, fell by 1.5 per cent, in Britain.

But the group said it was performing in line with its expectations and its outlook for the full year was unchanged. It also said it had gained share from its rivals in a declining British grocery market, helped by the addition of 4,300 extra staff and the overhaul of 100 stores.
