Bunreacht na hÉireann is the supreme law of the Irish state. Two provisions merit mention. According to Article 9, citizens owe duties of “fidelity to the [Irish] nation and loyalty to the [Irish] state'‘.

More specifically, Article 40 explicitly excludes “titles of nobility'‘.
