Tensions build in Fianna Fáil over publication of report

Government TDs are weighing up a summer of discontent against budgetary risks

The agonising of cabinet ministers over whether or not to publish the Bord Snip report ended last week, but the government’s troubles with protest groups are only just beginning.

For better or worse, the report from the group, headed by economist Colm McCarthy, was published with an 80-page summary of €5 billion in savings across all areas of the public service, and a 221-page explanatory tome.
