Gardaí still do not have the power to charge taxi drivers for 22 offences under taxi regulation and road traffic legislation.

The nine enforcement officers employed by the Office of Taxi Regulation have been able to issue fines of up to €250 for these offences since 2007, but legislation to allow gardaí to do so has not yet been enacted.
