Tara Mines, which employs 670 people in Ireland, has warned the future of the mine could be in danger if staff win a battle for higher pay.

Tara Mines, which employs 670 people in Ireland, has warned the future of the mine could be in danger if staff win a battle for higher pay.

The mining company said that an increase in payroll costs - which represent 51 per cent of its overall costs -would have a detrimental effect on its competitiveness.

Tara said the situation was not sustainable in the long term and if not addressed, would result in the mine closing earlier...
