The Huffington Post is striving to strike a balance between blogging and news, writes Siobhán Brett.

Last autumn, the US Huffington Post made a series of announcements.

The internet newspaper had reached one billion page views for the first time in August; it was launching four new websites, bringing to 21 the number launched since purchased by AOL in March; and - in the same breath - it had acquired local democracy and community-focused discussion board Localocracy.
