Tablets may be the gift of choice this Christmas but their market penetration remains low, according to new research by StatCounter.

The Dublin-based analytics firm found that tablets account for just 4.8 per cent of internet usage globally. Ireland bucked the trend somewhat with 8.4 per cent, but the devices remain far behind laptop and desktop devices, which account for 75.4 per cent of Irish internet access and 76.1 per cent globally.
