Surfers warn of tourism wipeout from Doolin pier

Clare County Council has come under mounting pressure from surfers around the world to alter plans for a €6 million pier at Doolin, which they claim will damage surfing and tourism in the area.

Clare County Council has come under mounting pressure from surfers around the world to alter plans for a €6 million pier at Doolin, which they claim will damage surfing and tourism in the area.

The council submitted plans last month for the construction of a much larger pier to the west of the existing Doolin pier, as well as a new access road and dredging works.
