Ireland Competition for supermarket sites has become fierce, as symbol groups and multiples continue to expand, writes John Ruddy.

The ribbon was barely cut on Tesco's new store in the Dundrum Town Centre before the retailer announced that construction had started on another new store in Carrickon-Shannon, the retailer's first outlet in Co Leitrim.

A new Tesco Express convenience store opened in Dublin last week.The group is planning a new store in Midleton, Co Cork.
