Summer Motoring: Audi teases with electric R8 supercar

While nobody will ever own this all-electric R8 supercar, it reveals a potentially exciting future for electric Audis, writes Paul Healy.

Everything about the R8 e-tron is bespoke, from the carbon fibre aluminium chassis to the wheel hubs hewn from a solid block of titanium.

Audi's 'tron' programme has been more than a little confusing to follow since its inception at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009. The car that, publicly at least, launched the programme was the Audi e-tron concept, a TT-sized sports coupé that bore more than a passing resemblance to the R8 supercar.
