Substantial refunds due to medical card holders

Many patients with cards under review entitled to claim cash spent on health services, say GPs.

Thousands of medical card patients are entitled to reclaim money owed to them from the Health Service Executive, GPs have claimed.

Medical cards are supposed to remain valid, irrespective of the expiry date shown on the card, once the medical card holder is under review.

But GPs said this had not happened. They said many of their patients had their entitlements revoked while their cards were under review.
