There were more than 119,000 full-time undergraduate students in Irish universities and institutes of technology in 2007/08.

The number of full-time undergraduate students in the university sector alone in 2007/08 was over 67,000.

The state pays fees on behalf of all these students. In addition, qualifying students receive a maintenance grant.
