The average student spends about €700 a month or €6,300 over the academic year, according to Bank of Ireland.

The 140,000 plus students in full-time, third-level education in Ireland spend €881 million during the academic year. It's small wonder, then, that most banks target the student market.

However, students should be careful to choose an account that will keep them out of debt rather than one which offers cheap gimmicks, but expensive credit.
