The government is pushing ahead with plans to include capital assets in the means test for student grants from next year, but families could have to wait for months to discover what form the capital asset test will take.

Last December, in Budget 2012, it was announced that the means test for student maintenance grants would be amended to account not just for income, but also for the value of certain capital assets.
