Dominique Strauss-Kahn, former head of the International Monetary Fund, has been charged with illegally procuring prostitutes in the city of Lille.
Investigators had uncovered evidence that women had been hired to travel as far away as Washington to have sex with the then-chief of the IMF.
Prostitution is legal in France but procuring prostitutes is not.
