The government will have shut more than 700 places used for housing asylum-seekers and their families by the end of this year, according to new figures.

Some 550 long-term accommodation places for refugees and asylum-seekers have been gradually cut by the state over the past 18months.

Last week’s controversial plan to shut a further 150 spaces at Mosney camp later this year will bring the total to more than 700 closures.
