Plans to open up the retail pharmacy sector, a move that could lead to the opening of hundreds of new retail outlets, have been delayed following intense lobbying by pharmacists.

Plans to open up the retail pharmacy sector, a move that could lead to the opening of hundreds of new retail outlets, have been delayed following intense lobbying by pharmacists.

The cabinet is expected to discuss a new Pharmacy Bill at its meeting on Tuesday, when health minister Mary Harney will seek approval to go ahead with plans which would be brought into force by this time next year.
