The likely return of college fees is another worry for families trying to make ends meet

Parents struggling with the impact of the recession may be dealt an additional blow with the likely reintroduction of third-level fees.

Since the abolition of fees in 1995, third-level education has been free for all undergraduates, with the exception of a small annual registration fee.

However, education minister Batt O’Keeffe has signalled that he would like to see a reintroduction of fees to help finance third-level institutions.
