Minister Cowen has introduced a new stamp duty regime for residential property which he hopes will go some way to counteracting the current property slump. RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY

The new rates of stamp duty provide that, on the purchase of residences with a value of less than €1million, no tax will be payable on the first €125,000 of the consideration, and the balance will be charged at 7 per cent.
