Local sports clubs and voluntary organisations are to have their funding slashed as the government continues to rein in public finances.

The government’s Sports Capital Grants are expected to be cut by over a third when Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism Martin Cullen announces the grants scheme this week.

This will see funding for clubs, sports facilities and voluntary organisations drop from €85 million in 2007, to €50 million this year.
