Spin and iRadio had close battle for last licence

The race for licences for the latest round of radio stations has been extremely competitive, with the next decision for the new Midlands and North East youth station due in May.

Next month, a multi-city licence will be advertised, which is expected to prove very attractive for media investors.

Spin, which is backed by Denis O’Brien’s Communicorp and won the South West licence, is one of three groups in the running for the Midlands/ North East. iRadio, the winner of a North West youth radio licence, is also short-listed, as is the consortium led by Red FM, which applied unsuccessfully for the previous two regional stations....
