Born in a Dundalk labourer’s cottage, the late Phil Monahan found success as a retail property developer, leaving an estate worth €27 million when he died aged 75 in 2003.

With the sale of his Castleknock mansion Somerton House agreed, its contents will go under the hammer tomorrow.
