Solicitors want exemption from data register

The Law Society has called for solicitors to be exempted from registering with the Data Protection Commissioner.

The Law Society has called for solicitors to be exempted from registering with the Data Protection Commissioner. It also wants registration fees slashed by 75 per cent.

At present, anyone who controls sensitive data must register with the commissioner. Annual fees range from €25.37 for firms with up to five employees to €317.43 for companies with more than 26 workers.
