Solicitors criticised over abuse awards

A survey of victims of abuse in residential institutions shows that their solicitors have been withholding up to €20,000 from awards made by the Residential Institutions Redress Board (RIRB).

A survey of victims of abuse in residential institutions shows that their solicitors have been withholding up to €20,000 from awards made by the Residential Institutions Redress Board (RIRB).

Up to 70 per cent of the 1,800 members of Right of Place said their solicitors had deducted money for legal costs or withheld cheques for lengthy periods, even though the board pays all reasonable legal fees.
