Social networking firms are trying to lure companies onto their websites by offering free branded pages.

MySpace and Facebook are leading the way with sponsored pages from Intel and O2, respectively.

MySpace also has a deal in place with the satellite broadcaster E4. But companies thinking of opening up a new marketing channel through social networking sites have been warned that it is not a surefire way to connect brands with social networkers.
