More than 100,000 pumpkins will be sold by Irish fruit distributors Keelings this Hallowe'en.

The company's pumpkin patch takes up to five hectares of a 50-hectare farm in Castlebellingham, Co Louth, which also grows flowers, lettuces and Irish lilies. Around 50 people work on the "small and intensive" farm. Pumpkins, naturally, are an extremely seasonal business.

"After October 31, we won't sell another pumpkin until the following October 31," said Bruce Bentley, general manager for Keelings farms.
