Small business needs care too

Driving the economy and generally keeping out of the way to let business produce wealth and create employment is as good a job description as any for a finance minister.

Judged on macro-economic terms, Brian Cowen's first budget is likely to be a success. The government can point to an economy which will grow by at least 5 per cent next year, helping to secure employment and generating future wealth for the country.
