Slow-grinding wheels of justice cost us all dear

At the very least, the Irish people are entitled to know how the collapse of the financial institutions occurred.

It has now taken nearly five years -- so far -- to have these Anglo executives prosecuted before the courts.

In the High Court last Wednesday, the Director of Corporate Enforcement sought a three-year extension to the investigation into alleged malpractices at Anglo Irish Bank, an investigation which began four years ago. The director was allowed a one-year extension.

In November 2010, the Director of Corporate Enforcement and the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation stated that their investigations would be "substantially completed" by the end of 2010.
