Irish shipping and port activity rose by 11 per cent in the second quarter of 2013 from the corresponding period of 2012, according to the latest quarterly iShip Index and traffic review.

Published by the Irish Maritime Development Office, the index was at 880 points, matching its highest level since 2008.
Four of the five principal domestic freight segments grew in the second quarter of 2013.
