European markets ended the day mixed following cautious comments from US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen on the American housing market and a positive turn in the Ukraine crisis.

The crisis in eastern Ukraine saw its first positive development in weeks, as Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was willing to discuss a way to end the violence with the head of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
