Shire Plc climbed to a record high after AbbVie said the drugmaker rejected an enhanced bid of about $46 billion.

Alstom advanced 1 per cent as Siemens and Mitsubishi raised the cash component of their offer for the company by €1.2 billion to €8.2 billion.
