European stocks rose today as investor confidence was boosted by manufacturing gains in China and the euro area, indicating that the economic recovery is on track.

European stocks rose today as investor confidence was boosted by manufacturing gains in China and the euro area, indicating that the economic recovery is on track.

Euro area manufacturing and services activity strengthened in July and a manufacturing gauge in China rose to an 18-month high, suggesting that the country will meet its 7.5 per cent growth target for 2014.

National benchmarks rose in 14 of the 18 western European markets today.
