The state's second-largest port company, Shannon Foynes, plans to double its trade and build a deep-water berth to accommodate larger vessels as part of a new masterplan.

The state's second-largest port company, Shannon Foynes, plans to double its trade and build a deep-water berth to accommodate larger vessels as part of a new masterplan.

The port, which operates commercial activity along the Shannon estuary and accounts for 35 per cent of Ireland's bulk traffic, will outline the plan late next month.
