A section of the £850 million (€994 million) A5 motorway linking the Republic to the North will still be constructed over the next two to three years, despite last week's announcement by the government that it was deferring the project due to capital cutbacks.

A spokesman for Taoiseach Enda Kenny confirmed that the government will contribute £50 million to the project over 2015 and 2016 instead of the initial £400 million commitment.
