SDLP asked not to run candidate in West Tyrone

Kieran Deeny, an independent candidate in next month's general election in the North, asked SDLP leader Mark Durkan on several occasions not to put forward an SDLP candidate in the West Tyrone constituency.

Deeny wrote to Durkan as recently as last weekend, calling on him not to run a candidate in order to prevent what he called the “nightmare scenario'‘ of Sinn Féin's Pat Doherty being re-elected as MP for the area....
