Scrappage scheme: too little too late?

The €1,500 scrappage scheme is restrictive, and nowhere does the budget seek to shift motor taxation from VRT to tax on usage

Having lobbied intensively for the introduction of a car scrappage scheme, the motor industry will be pleased to see that its pleas have not fallen on deaf ears, with the introduction of a scrappage scheme to run from January 1toDecember 31next year.

However, for the many car dealers who have gone to the wall over the last 18 months and for those on the brink, it may be a case of too little too late.
