I have a new hero. I don't know his name, but he was wearing a Bob Marley T-shirt. He coasted past me on his bike while I struggled across the Laikipia plains in Kenya. His bike was a heavy old steel yoke. Mine was a fancy mountain bike. He rode gracefully. I sweated and cursed the road.
I use the word road lightly. It was more like a gravel track lined with sharp, nasty rocks....
